Student Success Statement/ Reflection

Student Success Statement

“Honesty is the cornerstone of character. The honest man or women seeks not merely to avoid criminal or illegal acts, but to be scrupulously fair, upright, fearless in both action and expression. Honesty pays dividends both in dollars and in peace of mind.”

-B.C. Forbes

Reflection

It is so self-beneficial if one keeps honest. Not only are you being honest to the people around you but to yourself. Being honest is right and fair and that is what keeps peace. It takes character to be honest and it is not easy. When one is truly honest not only are they avoiding bad consequences but are aiming to doing what is right.

Honesty 9 of 10

Honesty

9 of 10

Honesty is always the best policy. Employers need to know that they can trust you with everything from company credit cards to trade secrets. How can you work at honesty? You demonstrate integrity every day that you do your own homework and resist the temptation to cheat on exams.

What is honesty?

·        Honesty is telling the truth

·        Honesty is straightforward conduct

·        Honesty is being sincere, truthful, trust worthy, honorable, fair, genuine, and loyal with integrity.

You are being honest when you…

·        Do your own homework

·        Tell a friend the truth

·        Explain the real reason you didn’t turn in your homework

·        Keep your eyes on your own paper

·        Clean up your room after making a promise

·        Give the cashier the extra money she gave you by mistake

·        Write a report in your own words instead of copying

·        Admit you made the mistake

·        Keep a friend’s secret

·        Turn in a wallet full of money that you found

Student Success Statement
“Stop worrying about whether you’re going to win or lose and focus your full attention on what’s happening right this moment.”
-Phil Jackson
11 World Championships-Coach
2 World Championships-Player
2 High School Championships-Player
Reflection
We can’t swell on the future and keep wondering what will happen because we have to focus and what we are doing now. Whatever it is we do right now determine our future, dwelling on the future does not get us there. It is the hard work and concentration that does. I definitely agree with Phil Jackson. A good example would be I. I hope to go to UCLA and I am constantly questioning whether I will get accepted or not. I keep worrying but then I realize that worrying about it won’t get me into UCLA, I should be concentrating on school and what I have to do right now, and that will determine whether I get into UCLA or not.

Time Managing 8 of 10

Time Management

8 of 10

Master the moments and you may be a real pro when it comes to juggling the many demands on your time – classes, homework and activities – with some family help. College gives you an even bigger chance to sharpen your time management skills by doing it all on your own. And that’s a good thing since most jobs require multitasking. You might need to take care of current clients while attracting new ones, respond to e-mails while working on a major presentation, or order tomorrow’s produce while planning next week’s menu.

Someone said “Wherever you are, be there.” Focus on the present moment and give it all your attention. Don’t let your mind drift and wander here and there when you need to be thinking and concentrating on the moment at hand. You can’t go back and recapture this moment, so make the most of it while it NOW. Master the present and you will master the future. Work smart by mastering the present moment.

Reflection

We make decisions that shape our lives. It may become challenging to make some decisions for life. Most of us want the best for ourse4lves but don't always make the right choices. One makes decisions and those decisions determine the outlook of our lives. When one receives bad grades, it is not because someone else wanted to give that person that bad grade but it was himself who decided upon that. He may have made bad decisions such as choosing not to study, which lead to the bad outcome. We choose what way our life goes, and we cannot put the blame on anyone else. That is the reason why it is very important to make wise decisions, because it may have a greater impact than imagined.

Cool Under Pressure

Cool Under Pressure

6 of 10

Very few students enjoy taking tests. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. Try thinking of the pressure of testing as practice for the work worlds own explosive situations. You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.

The best way to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is to prepare. Applying the motto “Be Prepared” holds true first time and every time.

Prepare for that test, and you won’t worry about it. In fact, it will be your chance to shine, to reveal the hard work you have put into preparing for the test. You will be rewarded for the effort you have thrust into your studies. Preparation removes fear. When you are prepared, you will not fear. Preparation helps you maintain your cool under pressure. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm; therefore, prepare and your coolness under pressure is sure to abound.

Student Success Statement

“Start with what is right rather than what is acceptable.”

-Peter F. Drucker

Reflection

Our society has an idea of acceptance. When we are out with friends, we may be influenced into doing wrong things just to “fit in”. Before doing anything we have to take a moment and decide whether it is right or wrong. Some rather choose wrong rather than not being accepted by others. We have to remember to always remember what is right and always make the right decisions. It does not matter to be accepted because to choose the right is much more significant. Everything we do will stay in our conscious forever; while the people around us will not always be there with you.
