Student Responsibities

Student  Responsibilities

Part 1

Students have the right to seize the responsibility for their own destiny and should be encouraged to do so. With every right comes responsibility!

1.    I have the responsibility to come to every class prepared to listen, to participate, and to learn.

2.    I have the responsibility to read the text carefully, nothing important ideas and rephrasing concepts in my own words.

3.    I have the responsibility to work examples in the textbook and those given in class.

4.    I have the responsibility to consult other students, the teacher, an assistant, and other resources whenever I need the extra help.

5.     I have the responsibility to understand that the teacher is not primarily responsible for making me understand, but that it is my job to study and to learn.

6.    I have the responsibility of keeping an open mind and trying to comprehend what the teacher is trying to get across.

Student Success Statement/Reflectiom

Student Success Statement

“My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular; you make them because they’re right.”

-Theodore Hesburgh

Reflection

The motivation one should have to choose the right should be because it is the correct the decision. It should not be a decision preferred only because it is the easy way out of a situation. One should not do a decision because it benefits us or is a trend, but because it is choosing the right.

“Decisions Determine Destiny”

-Thomas S. Monson

Reflection

Every choice you make has a consequence. Whatever your decision is, it will affect your future. Your decisions may have a positive or negative result. You create your own kismet with the decisions you make throughout your life.

Successful Students Part 2

Successful Students Part 2

4. Successful students learn that a student and a teacher make a team. Most teachers want exactly what you want: they would like for you to learn the material in their respective classes and earn a good grade.

Successful students reflect well on the efforts of any teacher; if you learned your material, the instructor takes some justifiable pride in teaching. Join forces with your instructor, they are not an enemy, you share same interests, the same goals – in short, your teammates. Get to know your professor. You’re the most valuable players on the same team. You’re jobs are to work together for mutual success. Neither wishes to chalk up a losing season. Be a team player.

6. The whole purpose of taking notes is to use them, and use them often. The more you use them, the more they improve.

Successful Students (Part 1)

Successful Students

Part 1

Successful students exhibit a combination of successful attitudes and behaviors as well as intellectual capacity. Successful students

1. Successful students are responsible and active. Successful students get involved in their studies, accept responsibility for their own education, and are active participants in it!

Responsibility means control. It’s the difference between leading and being led. You own efforts control your grade, you earn the glory or deserve the blame, you make the choice. Active classroom participation improves grades without increasing study time. You can sit there, act bored, daydream, or sleep. OR, you can actively listen, think, question, and take notes like someone in charge of their learning experience. Either option costs one class period. However, the former method will require a large degree of additional work outside of class to achieve the same degree of learning the latter provides at one sitting. The choice is yours.

2. Successful students have educational goals. Successful students have legitimate goals and are motivated by stuff……AND REMEMBER

“Great beauty, great strength, and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all.”

-Benjamin Franklin

Reflection

Beauty, money, and having physical strength is not as important and significant as choosing the right. It takes will power to choose the right which overcomes any other power. You can’t always rely on physical beauty and strength or money to succeed in life. A right heart will take you farther. Choosing the right will give you an amazing feeling that beauty, riches, or strength can’t ever give you.

Characteristics of a Successful Student

Characteristics of a Successful Student

Many students do not know what it takes to be successful in the educational environment. They understand good and bad grades in a general way, and they sense that they should attend classes, but that is where their knowledge begins and ends.

Most instructors know what a good student is- and is not. For one thing, a good student is not necessarily the most intelligent individual in the class.

The following is a list of some characteristics of good students. This list is a description of what a hard-working student does and what a teacher likes to see. By learning these characteristics, you may better understand the day-to-day and class-to-class behavior of

Successful student. The idea is to provide you with guidelines you can follow which will help you get down to the business of becoming a serious, successful student.

1.       Successful students attend classes regularly. They are on time. They listen and  train themselves to pay attention. F they miss a session, they feel obligated to let the instructor know why before class begins, if possible, and their excuses are legitimate and reasonable. They make sure they get all missed assignments (by contact6tng the instructor or another student), and understand specifically what was .

“Right is right, even if everyone is against it. Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.”

-William Penn

Reflection

One should always choose to do the right no matter how tempting the wrong may be. Even if the rest of the people are choosing the wrong, it shouldn’t influence you into doing the same. A wrong action does not become right just because the rest are doing it.

50 Habits of Successful People (Habits 44-47)

50 Habits of Successful People

(Habits 44-47)

44. They doing rationalize failure. While many are talking about their age, their sore back, their lack of time, their poor genetics, their ‘bad luck’, their nasty boss and their lack of opportunities (all good reasons to fail), they are finding a way to success despite all their challenges.

45. They have an off switch. They know how to relax, enjoy what they have in their life, and to have fun.

46. Their career is not their identity, it’s their job. It’s not who they are, its what they do.

47. They are more interested in effective than they are in easy. While the majority look for the quickest, easiest way (the shortcut), they look for the course of action which will produce the best results over the long term.

“It’s not living that matters, but living rightly”

-Socrates

Reflection

To my understanding, simply living doesn’t mean you’re living rightly. By choosing the right you will live rightly. Without making the proper decisions you are not living an honest life.

50 Habits of Successful People (Habits 31-35)

50 Habits of Successful People

(Habits 31-35)

31.  They are secure. They do not derive their sense of worth of self from what they own, who they know, where they live or what they look like.

32. They are generous and kind. They take pleasure in helping others achieve.

33. They are humble and they are happy to admit mistakes and to apologize. They are confident in their ability, but not arrogant. They are happy to learn from others. They are happy to make others look good rather than seek their own personal glory.

34. They are adaptable and embrace change, while the majority are creatures of comfort and habit. They are comfortable with, and embrace, the new and the unfamiliar.

35. They keep themselves in shape physically, not to be mistaken with training for the Olympics or being obsessed with their body. They understand the importance of being physically well. They are not all about looks, they are more concerned with function and health. Their body is not who they are, it’s where they live.

50 Habits of Successful People (Habits 21-30)

50 Habits of Successful People

(Habits 21-30)

21. They don’t believe in, or wait for fate, destiny, chance or luck to determine or shape their future. They believe in, and are committed to actively and consciously creating their own best life.

22. While many people are reactive, they are proactive. They take action before they have to.

23. They are more effective than most at managing their emotions. They feel like we all do but they are not slaves to their emotions.

24. They are good communicators and they consciously work are it.

25. They have a plan of their life and they work methodically at turning the plan into reality. Their life is not a clumsy series of unplanned events and outcomes.

26 Their desire to exceptional means that they typically do things that most wont. They become exceptional by choice. We’re all faced with life-shaping decisions almost daily. Successful people make the decisions that most wont and don’t.

27. While many people are pleasure junkies and avoid pain and discomfort at all cost, successful people understand the value and benefits of working through the tough stuff that most would avoid.

28. They have identified their core values (what is important to them) and they do their best to live a life which is reflective of those values.

29. They have balance. While they may be financially successful, they know that the terms money and success are not interchangeable. They understand that people who are successful on a financial level only, are not successful at all. Unfortunately we live in a society which teaches that money equals success. Like many other things, money is a tool. It is certainly not a bad thing but ultimately; it’s just another resource. Unfortunately, too many people worship it.

30. They understand the importance of discipline and self-control. They are strong. They are happy to make the road less troubled.

“Doing what is right, fair, and honorable is more important than winning or losing.”

-Chick Moorman

Reflection

Doing what is right is being honest to yourself. Winning or losing doesn’t matter as long as you do what is fair. Anyone can win, but it takes more from one to do what is right.
