Student Success Statement/ Reflection

Student Success Statement

“Honesty is the cornerstone of character. The honest man or women seeks not merely to avoid criminal or illegal acts, but to be scrupulously fair, upright, fearless in both action and expression. Honesty pays dividends both in dollars and in peace of mind.”

-B.C. Forbes

Reflection

It is so self-beneficial if one keeps honest. Not only are you being honest to the people around you but to yourself. Being honest is right and fair and that is what keeps peace. It takes character to be honest and it is not easy. When one is truly honest not only are they avoiding bad consequences but are aiming to doing what is right.

“Everyone is their architect of their own learning.”

-Claudius

Reflection

We make decisions that shape our lives. It may become challenging to make some decisions for life. Most of us want the best for ourse4lves but don't always make the right choices. One makes decisions and those decisions determine the outlook of our lives. When one receives bad grades, it is not because someone else wanted to give that person that bad grade but it was himself who decided upon that. He may have made bad decisions such as choosing not to study, which lead to the bad outcome. We choose what way our life goes, and we cannot put the blame on anyone else. That is the reason why it is very important to make wise decisions, because it may have a greater impact than imagined.

Initiative 5 of 10

Initiative

5 of 10

Initiative is creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, imagination. Every time you respond in class, every time you choose your own research topic, every time you put together your own interpretation of a piece of literature, you take initiative. And future employers value can-do professionals who come up with new ideas and chart their own course through projects, employees who are self-reliant. Self-reliant people are self-starters who don’t procrastinate on getting the job done. They know what is required to do and do it. They don’t wait to be told many times. Succeeding in high school, college, and in the career world is taking the initiative.

“To be great – concentrate.”

-Orson Swett Marden

Reflection

Everyone has a different definition for greatness. For most of us, we wish to be great. It isn’t always easy to become great. It takes hard work, and many obstacles get it the way. The way to reach greatness is to stay focus and concentrate. This is a great quote that truly expresses the idea to achieve greatness. One should concentrate on what it is that they want. When concentrated they shouldn’t let anything distract them from their goal, and is more likely to then reach it.

Never

There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”

-Ayn Rand

(Novelist, philosopher, playwright, screenwriter)

Reflection

There is never a right time to choose the right. There is never a reason why to choose the right. If you know something is wrong and you feel like you need to make that decision, you need to think again. There is no circumstance that choosing the wrong will be needed or accepted. The wrong is wrong and we should never do wrong. No matter what the right the decision will be to choose the right. ALWAYS CHOOSE THE RIGHT.

The Three Don’ts

Don’t Whine

Don’t Complain

Don’t Make Excuses

-John Wooden

Reflection

When we choose the right one should be positive about their decisions. One should not “whine complain or make excuses” as John Wooden mentioned. When we do any of these things we are choosing the wrong. One should be grateful as they are choosing the right, because if otherwise it’s just like making the wrong decisions anyways. It is not right to whine or complain because if you are going to do so then why even make that decision. There is no excuse for choosing the wrong. There is nothing that makes choosing the wrong a good decision. Under no circumstance is it right, never.

Student Success Statement

“You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience.”

-Robert E. Lee

Reflection

I believe that this quote explains it all. It says it all in only two sentences. We have to do nothing other than choose the right. No matter what we have to choose the right. It may not be as easy at the beginning but as you start choosing the right, it becomes easier. The more you choose the right the easier it becomes. By choosing the right you get to enjoy from it. You will have a clear conscious. There will be nothing to worry about or anything that bothers you with a clear conscious. An example would be doing well in an exam without cheating. That exam may have helped you passed the class. You deserved it because you studied hard for it. But if you had cheated on the exam and passed the class because of cheating them your conscious would bother you every time you took a look at your grade because you would remember that it took cheating to get that grade and you don’t deserve it. You’ve chose the wrong. That is the reason we should always chose the right, to get good outcomes and have a healthy conscious.

“Be always sure you’re right, then go ahead.”

-Davy Crockett

Reflection

I believe that this is very well said. If you believe that it is the correct thing to do then go ahead and do it. You have to make sure that it is correct before doing anything. Don’t go ahead and make an action unless you are sure that what you are going to do is correct. Once you are sure that what you are about to do is the correct then go ahead and do it, otherwise, don’t do it.

Take Control of Homework Part 1

Take Control of Homework

So It Doesn’t Control You

Part 1

Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:

·         Reinforce what you’ve learned during the day.

·         Build study habits that are essential in college.

·         Prepare for our classes.

·         Get a sense of program.

·         Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

Set the Mood

Create a good study area with everything you need (for example, a calculator). If you don’t have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

Know Where to Begin

Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don’t have to face them at the end.

Study at the Same Time Every Day

Even if you don’t have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down to work is part of your normal routine, you’ll approach it with less dread. Also, you’ll become a pro at using time productively.

“Tell me what is right and I will fight for it.”

-Woodrow Wilson

Reflection

I believe that President Wilson did that mean “fight” as in physically fighting but more as in standing up for what is right. Taking action to do what is right and always choosing the right. He mentions how just let him know are right and he will reinforce it. I believe that this is something that we should all follow. When something is right then one should stand up for it even through the one else does it doesn’t matter to be the only one standing.

Distacne Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You? Part 4

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You?

Part 4 of 4

Emphasis on the Written Word

Most of the communication, as well as the course work, in distance-learning classes is written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer – and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the Internet.
Decide Whether It's Right for You
Distance education isn't for everyone, but it just might be for you. you really should seek it out and give it a try. you never know until you try. you might even fall in love with distance education. while distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, it's not the right choice for everyone. so carefully consider your unique needs and interests and give distance education a try; then, decide if it is right for you.

Student Success Statement

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”

-Rosa Parks

Reflection

I believe that this statement is very true. One should not be afraid of what their dong or of any of the consequences as long as they are doing what is right. When someone choses the wrong there are bad consequences and you have to worry about many things such as getting caught. You are also left with guilt and that is what we should fear. An example of doing what is right and when we should fear of what we do would be someone seeing a person steal. If he decides to contact the police to stop the person then he should fear of anything because he is doing what is right. He should not fear on what other people say because his action , stopping the robber, is the correct thing to do.

Summary/Reflection

Summary:

Marion Jones was a multi time Olympic medal winner. After many years of her winning the Olympic gold medal she confessed that she was using illegal drug to enhance her athletic performance. She had lied to the inspectors and had lived years with the lie that she had won by cheating. Being the face of America in the Olympics she shocked everyone and most sadly she disappointed many. She was punished for her actions. Her metals were removed and she was sentenced to six months in prison.

Reflection:

Jones was living with guilt for years. Even if the reward was great her conscious was not left alone until she burst out the true. She knew what the consequences would be and she decided to face them anyways. It is important to choose the right and be honest to everyone especially with one’s self. No matter how easy it seems to get away with something, your conscious won’t be pure and it won’t let you be in peace.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work

Like many high school students, you may want- or need- to work part time. Working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.

Important Considerations

You have to weigh a number of factors when deciding whether to take on apart-time job. It’s important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you.

Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you’re seeking.
